AEW is home to some of the top heels in professional wrestling. One of those stars recently explained why they chose to join the Jacksonville-based promotion.

That star is Kyle Fletcher, the Aussie talent who joined Tony Khan's promotion in 2023 and has become one of the company's top singles performers this year. Additionally, the former TNT champion is part of the Don Callis Family, arguably the most influential faction in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The Protostar also signed a new deal with AEW, which he revealed during a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet's Insight.

Interestingly, in the same interview, Fletcher also explained why he joined All Elite Wrestling, stating:

"I think it was the vibe there. I don’t want to say the freedom, but I think there’s a lot of trust there that I can produce the wrestling I want to produce, and I can wrestle the way that I like to wrestle. And experiencing that beforehand and knowing that, I think that was what kind of drew me towards AEW for sure.” [H/T: Drainmaker on X]

Kyle Fletcher says WWE was interested in him before he joined AEW

In a separate instance on Chris Van Vliet's Insight, Kyle Fletcher revealed that before joining All Elite Wrestling, he had a call with WWE. However, he decided against joining the Stamford-based promotion as he felt it wasn't the right fit at the time.

"We had one kind of like official [call]. At the time it was myself and Mark Davis as Aussie Open, we had like a Zoom call with them. We kind of spoke about what the deal would entail, and that sort of thing. I think when it got to that point, it just didn’t feel like the right fit at the time. So we didn’t get super close. It was kind of like at the point where there was options there," said Fletcher [H/T chrisvanvliet.com].

The Protostar is currently focused on winning the AEW Continental Classic Tournament, with two wins and one loss.
