Tony Khan's decision to make two top AEW names champions in his company had come under scrutiny. Khan has now come forward to defend that decision.
The 2025 edition of AEW Winter is Coming crowned new champions, as Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale, a.k.a. the Babes of Wrath, became the inaugural AEW Women's Tag Team Champions by defeating Timeless Love Bombs (Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa) in the tag team title tournament finals. Given the individual status of the talent involved in the promotion, many fans expected the Love Bombs to be the favorites over the Babes of Wrath, so they were naturally surprised when the underdogs won the titles. Moreover, some fans even criticized the decision. Recently, Tony Khan finally explained why Cameron and Nightingale won that night.
During the Worlds End media call, the President, while answering a related question, stated that Willow and Harley earned the opportunity to be in the tournament and worked very hard to win. Khan also noted that they are fantastic representatives of the Jacksonville-based promotion.
