Tiger Woods is helping Ed Russo, Donald Trump’s environmental advisor, with a big restoration project at Langston Golf Course in Washington, D.C. The 49-year-old legend will offer his personal input on redesigning the course while keeping its history intact.
Langston has a rich history. It opened in 1939 as D.C.’s first golf course for African American players. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Lee Elder, the first Black golfer to play at The Masters in 1975, managed the course. Woods has often credited Elder for opening doors for Black golfers which makes his involvement here especially significant.
Tiger Woods’ firm, TGR Design, is not officially involved, but Russo is a senior consultant for TGR. That means Woods’ role will be personal, helping shape the course layout while Russo handles the environmental side, including restoring habitats along the Anacostia River.
"I'm responsible for redesigning it and making it better than it ever was, and I’m proud to say that Tiger Woods has agreed to help me do that. I can’t wait to work with Tiger. He’s a great guy,” Russo told Front Office Sports.

He hasn’t played since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024 and isn’t expected to return until The Masters in April 2026. Still, this project gives fans a glimpse of him making an impact off the course.
Tiger Woods continues to stay active with course design work in Utah
Even while recovering from surgery, Tiger Woods has stayed involved in golf through his design projects. Back in July, he visited Park City, Utah, to check on the progress of the new mountain course at the Marcella Club, his first TGR Design project in the state.
Woods shared a short video on Instagram showing him walking the site with his design team. The clip ended with a "to be continued" message, teasing more updates to come. In the caption, he wrote:
"Designing is a mindset — then the magic shows up. And there’s no shortage of it out here at Bluejack Ranch."Announced in early 2023, the course will serve as the main feature of the private Marcella Club and is Woods’s first mountain-style layout. It sits at Jordanelle Ridge and offers wide views of the Uinta Mountains, Heber Valley, and Mount Timpanogos.
Tiger Woods was also recently seen in Florida filming a commercial for Bridgestone with Matt Kuchar, Jason Day, and other pros. The appearance marked his first time back on the course since his back surgery in October.
