Tony Khan delivered an amazing Worlds End pay-per-view this week from the Now Arena in Illinois. The event witnessed the rise of MJF as the new AEW World Champion. Meanwhile, Kris Statlander went on to retain her AEW Women's World Championship after an amazing match with Jamie Hayter. While the show managed to make a lot of headlines, it was not perfect by any means.
The show featured a stacked lineup of 13 matches across the main show and Zero Hour. It had top stars like Jon Moxley, Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, and Swerve Strickland. But many believe that Tony Khan made a big mistake with some of these matches that might affect the AEW programming down the line.
In this article, let's discuss 3 major mistakes by Tony Khan at AEW Worlds End 2025:
#3. The Conglomeration, Toni Storm & Roderick Strong defeating the Death Riders
The Conglomeration teamed up with Toni Storm and Roderick Strong to take on Death Riders at Worlds End this week. All the stars delivered an epic performance, but the heel faction faced a bitter loss against the babyfaces. Death Riders have faced some big defeats over the past few weeks in All Elite Wrestling. Therefore, they needed this victory more than The Conglomeration and the rest of the team.
This loss has heavily affected Death Riders' credibility in All Elite Wrestling. It hurts the persona of the faction as now they have taken a defeat at the hands of a randomly united team. Moreover, it puts a question mark on the future of the faction as well. Tony Khan could have kept the momentum on the Death Riders' side in this match to give them a strong entry to 2026.
#2. Jon Moxley becoming the Continental Champion
Jon Moxley defeated Kazuchika Okada in the finals of the Continental Classics to become the Continental Champion. That moment sparked a massive buzz among the fans, drawing a positive reaction. But still, Moxley did not need that victory. He was doing a good job working as a heel, and he had already enjoyed a World Title run this year. Besides, this title win has prompted Mox to subtly become a babyface in the company.
Tony Khan and his team have been teasing Death Riders' implosion for the past few months. This title win has just branched Moxley's story from the rest of the faction. Now, it looks like AEW has delayed the Death Riders' breakup for the next few months because of Jon's organic babyface turn. Instead, Tony Khan could have given this win to any other star to prompt Mox and his faction's breakup.
#1. Tony Khan giving Kyle Fletcher a big loss
Kyle Fletcher suffered a defeat at the hands of Jon Moxley in the Continental Classic semi-final. Fletcher had a lot of momentum coming into the Worlds End 2025, and his loss has certainly derailed his arc in AEW. Before this showdown, Fletcher dropped his AEW TNT Championship as well against Mark Briscoe last month at Full Gear. Therefore, he deserved a big win over a former World Champion like Jon Moxley.
Besides, AEW Worlds End was about how AEW is planning to book 2026. With a defeat to The Protostar, fans have been questioning his booking moving forward. Moreover, Fletcher's status in the company could have been easily elevated if he had competed in the finals of the C2. Besides, his becoming the new Continental Champion would have been more beneficial for AEW's mid-card scene instead of giving it to Jon Moxley.
