Despite the ongoing rivalry between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, one unexpected player isn’t afraid to show their admiration for “The Friars.”
Starting off the 2025 baseball season, the Padres are leading their division at 17-8 with the Dodgers trailing close behind at 16-9. The two teams have yet to square off against one another, but they are slated to compete in June.
Last year, the west coast teams faced off in the second round of playoffs. During the close series, the Padres won 2 games and the Dodgers took home 3, leading them to the next round of playoffs — and eventually winning the World Series.
It’s no secret that you probably won’t catch a Padres fan cheering on the enemy, however, Dodgers’ own Teoscar Hernández doesn’t mind it.
When speaking with teammate Mookie Betts on the podcast “On Base,” the right-fielder revealed which team he enjoys watching. “The Padres … I know a lot of fans not gonna like that but it’s whatever,” Hernández admitted.
It’s unclear whether fans of the Dodgers are taking his comments to heart, however, based on his record, it’s a good guess that they aren’t too bothered by his statement. Hernández is currently ranked as one of the Top 10 right fielders by the MLB Network for the 2025 season.
The 32-year-old player also appears not to be going anywhere anytime soon. Hernández signed a three-year, $66 million deal with the team that was announced earlier this year.
Prior to his re-signing, the Dodgers player expressed his interest in returning for another season. “My hopes are really high,” he revealed after the World Series parade. “Like I’ve said before, the Dodgers are the priority, obviously. I’m going to do everything in my power to come back.”
