"Thinking about someone wife is diabolical": NFL fans call out Stephen A. Smith for "wild" Hailee Steinfeld comment while discussing Josh Allen

Stephen A. Smith made a wild admission about Josh Allen's wife, Hailee Steinfeld. On Thursday's episode of ESPN's "First Take" ahead of the Bills vs Chiefs Week 9 game, he took a moment to state that when he sees the 2024 NFL MVP, he "thinks" about the "Sinners" actress.

"Every time I see that man, Josh Allen, because he's phenomenal, he's great. Everytime I see him, I'm thinking about his wife, Hailee Steinfeld" Smith said (Timestamp- 1:15).

Stephen A. Smith later clarified himself, stating that he was heaping praise on Steinfeld's acting skills.

"What an actress," Smith added. "She's phenomenal. What an actress. That woman is special. I just wanted to say that. Every time I see him, everybody talk about Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift, damn it's Hailee Steinfeld! In 'Sinners', she was amazing. ... Josh Allen is a really really good guy. But she (Hailee Steinfeld) is special. I'm talking about as a talent. She is really really special."

Despite the clarification, fans took to the comments to call out Stephen A. Smith for focusing on Josh Allen's wife on the show.

"Thinking about someone wife is diabolical," one fan commented. "Wild compliment of Allen's wife," another fan said. "Every time you hear Josh Allen you think about his wife lmaoo yoo and then tried to qualify it bc her acting stop it," this fan wrote.

Allen proposed to Hailee Steinfeld back in November 2024 during a trip to Malibu. The couple then got married this offseason in March in Santa Barbara, California. She's been a constant pillar of support, attending games this season to support her beau.

This season, the Bills quarterback has recorded 1,560 yards and 12 TDs passing, along with 261 yards and five TDs rushing in seven games.

Josh Allen opens up about life after marriage with Hailee Steinfeld

Last month, the quarterback sat down for an interview with ESPN's Mary Smith. Allen said that marrying Hailee Steinfeld has broadened his perspective on life.

"Maybe that I am more than a football player. My whole dream as a kid, you know, has been to be in this position, and I've never thought of anything outside of that or beyond that. "But there is life afterward as well. ... What really matters in life, how you treat others. Again, just try to be as good as a person I can be I guess."

The Bills vs Chiefs Week 9 showdown takes place this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Allen has the responsibility of improving upon last week's dominating 40-9 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
