On November 24, BTS' Taehyung returned to Fancafe after being away for years. The post immediately drew notice. He first shared a Christmas wish, writing "Merry Ground." Shortly after, he added the phrase "Happy New York." As a result, attention quickly shifted to the city behind the words.

Around the same period, his recent Vogue Japan interview resurfaced online. In that interview, Taehyung identified Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve as the most defining moment of his career. He recalled spending the 2019 year-end in New York.

“I think of 2019, when we went to New York for New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. I spent the end of the year and the start of the new one listening to jazz in the city, and when the bell rang for midnight, it felt incredibly romantic," the K-pop idol stated.

In recent days, new remarks added momentum. Jungkook said Merry Merry during a live broadcast. Soon after, j-hope echoed the phrase on Weverse. Taehyung followed with just "Merry" on Fancafe. In addition, fans recalled SUGA mentioning New York during an OT7 live. Taken together, the repeated references have sparked speculation. Many now wonder whether BTS could return to New York for New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. So far, no official confirmation has been announced.

"THEY'RE SO PERFORMING AT NYC NEW YEARS EVE OMG," an X user commented.

THEY'RE SO PERFORMING AT NYC NEW YEARS EVE OMG

Speculation keeps emerging following the members’ clues.

theyre going to new york for the new year's rockin eve, arent they????? they talked about it during the live too!! and they did the happy holidays live way too soon! OHHH

delulu me still thinks they will headline the new year rocking eve because why did namjoon mention it in the live and now this too?!

It never was "usually new york", they did NYRE as group in New York only once. What they said on live was already suspicious asf. Now only few days later, Tae comments connecting happy new year with new york. On top of that, they've been teasing about new years for a long while nowIt's almost certain BTS first reunited performance will be on New Year's Rocking Eve in New York

Meanwhile, others are skeptical, saying it would have already been announced if they were performing. Others point out that Diana Ross is the headliner this year.

Knowing how US organizers like to make the most out of ARMY, they would announce this already to make sure they get a really big crowd.

Nope. They would definitely save that very 1st ot7 performance after military for special event like the official comeback or new single release.

Rockin Eve announced Diana Ross as their headliner so I don’t think BTS will perform on there. Also I would love for Tae to not have to work after missing 2 birthdays in the military. But then I’ve been wrong with all my ideas 😆

BTS made history in 2018 as the first K-pop act to appear on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

BTS became the first K-pop name to appear on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, placing the genre on a major US broadcast. Their entry came during the 2018 edition through a recorded stage. They returned in 2020 with a live performance in Times Square. That appearance marked another first.

K-pop participation increased slowly after that. NewJeans joined the show in 2023 with a pre-shot segment. The lineup later expanded to solo acts. j-hope became the first K-pop soloist to feature on the program. Group stages followed. TXT secured a Times Square slot. For the latest broadcast, LE SSERAFIM are confirmed performers. They are the second K-pop girl group to take the Times Square stage.

In other news, Jimin took over Times Square with a massive LADOR advertisement on one of the busiest days of the year. The ad lit up Manhattan on December 24, drawing major attention from passersby.
