"They're no threat": Peyton Manning's ex-teammate pours cold water on Trevor Lawrence-led Jaguars hype after win vs. Broncos

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a statement on Sunday, winnning 34-20 over the AFC-leading Denver Broncos. However, former Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib remains unconvinced that the Jaguars are ready to contend for a championship.

Jacksonville (11-4) has won seven of its last eight games, and Trevor Lawrence and Co. are aiming for more than just a playoff appearance.

Talib, who won the 2016 Super Bowl with Peyton Manning, reacted to the Jaguars’ win with some reservations. He suggested that the result was “more about what the Broncos did wrong than what the Jags did right.”

"It just didn’t wow me," Talib said on Monday, via "The Arena: Gridiron podcast." "I think the Broncos are better than them, the Patriots are better than them, the Bills are better than them.”

Lawrence’s resurgence has powered a six-game winning streak, but it hasn’t moved Talib.

"When they have a playoff game, am I betting with the Jags at home? Nope!" talib said. "I'm not betting with ‘em, am I betting on them winning the superbowl? Superpower? Nope, I'm not betting with them."

Sports personality Skip Bayless echoed Talib's doubts.

“I don’t see Jacksonville as a threat in the postseason," Bayless said. "It depends on who they face, but they are no threat.”

Should the Jags really be seen as a Super Bowl contender?

The turning point for Jacksonville came in November, when Jaguars coach Liam Coen encouraged Trevor Lawrence to just play his game. The team hasn’t lost since, winning six straight matchups and reaching 11 wins for the first time in nearly two decades.

Jacksonville dominated the Denver Broncos and LA Chargers, both considered among the AFC’s top playoff teams, by double digits.

Lawrence is delivering the type of play expected from a No. 1 pick, and his recent surge has pushed him into the MVP conversation. With 10 touchdowns across his last two games, he has the fourth-best MVP odds at BetMGM.

The Jags look poised for a deep postseason run, with a potential AFC championship game matchup against the New England Patriots or the Buffalo Bills. With the right blend of coaching, quarterback play and defensive talent, the team appears well-equipped to push for a Super Bowl appearance in February.
