Daniel Cormier is confident he'd dominate the current UFC light heavyweight division if he were in his prime and named Alex Pereira as the opponent he'd like to fight.
Cormier is among the biggest names in mixed martial arts and is widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time. The American wrestling maestro is a six-time member of the US Olympic team and is the second fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously, as well as the first to have title defenses in two divisions.
During a recent Q&A session at Eddie Alvarez's Underground Kings Gym, Cormier fielded a question about which current 205'er he'd want to fight in his prime and said:
"If I was in my prime, probably [Alex] Pereira because he’s the biggest star. You want to fight the biggest star. You want to make the most money as a champion, but there are no wrestlers... If I were in my prime at light heavyweight right now? There’s no wrestlers, bro. Like, seriously. There’s no wrestlers. I’d be just feasting on everybody at light heavyweight. There’s no wrestlers."Get the latest updates on One Championship Rankings at Sportskeeda and more
He added:
"Do you know the top five when I was fighting? It was me, [Jon] Jones, Ryan Bader was an All-American, Phil Davis is a national champion, Rashad Evans was an NCAA All-American. We had so many wrestlers." [H/t: MMA Fighting]Watch the full video below:
Daniel Cormier gets honest about potential Jon Jones showdown under specific rules
Daniel Cormier would be open to facing Jon Jones again, but only on the wrestling mats. The two men shared one of the most legendary rivalries in MMA history and have clashed twice in the octagon.
Jones beat Cormier on both occasions, outpointing 'DC' in their first fight at UFC 182 in January 2015 before securing a KO win in their second encounter at UFC 214 in June 2017. However, Jones' second win over Cormier was later overturned to a no-contest after 'Bones' tested positive for PEDs.
In a recent interview with Josh Thomson, Cormier addressed a potential wrestling match against Yoel Romero and Jones. Quickly dismissing a matchup against Romero, Cormier said:
"I’d wrestle the right guy. I’d wrestle Jon Jones... [But] No... I’m not wrestling Yoel Romero, bro. I wouldn’t wrestle Yoel. He’s still good, man! He’s like insanely good. I’m not wrestling with him. I’d wrestle like a Jon Jones or somebody.”Why did you not like this content?
