Khabib Nurmagomedov recently opened up about his coaching methods and how he runs a tight ship while training fighters in his gym.
Nurmagomedov is widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time and is among the biggest personalities in sports today. After retiring with a perfect 29-0 record as a professional fighter, he transitioned into a coaching role and has high-profile fighters like Islam Makhachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, and Usman Nurmagomedov training under him.
In a recent interview with Rio Ferdinand at the World Sports Summit, Nurmagomedov shed some light on his training methods and how he requires absolute obedience from his students. Dismissing the idea of his fighters having "freedom of speech" in his gym, he said:
"When we come to the gym, when we begin our training, all of them know about this. There is no freedom [of] speech. Everybody does what I say... There is no 50/50, and I try to push them very well. If you look at the results, we have champions in almost every organization, and we have some [of the] best fighters, and we are the best team. I'm very happy, it means I'm doing a good job."Get the latest updates on One Championship Rankings at Sportskeeda and more
Khabib Nurmagomedov on never becoming friends with his former opponents
In the same interview, Khabib Nurmagomedov shared his two cents on becoming friends with former rivals and explained why he didn't like the idea.
Speaking to Rio Ferdinand (via @ChampRDS on X), the former UFC lightweight champion explained how he couldn't wrap his head around the notion of maintaining close relationships with people who "try to smash your face" in the cage and said:
"No, we have to be nice. But, it's never gonna be friends. This guy try to smash your face, how you gonna be friends with him? It's different. In your game, you guys play [football], in our game we fight. It's two different [things]."Why did you not like this content?
