On Wednesday, December 31, BTS's Taehyung released the teaser images for his upcoming V TYPE 非 photobook. The released teaser images revealed a few concept images as part of the photobook, where the idol was adorned in multiple makeup looks, costumes, and hair colors. While fans and netizens swooned over the recent images and expressed excitement for the upcoming photobook, the teaser soon led to debates about the idol allegedly imitating G-Dragon.
Some shots from the photobook, such as his heavy blue eyeshadow, a large hat, bring blue mullet, red heart eyelook, and spiky hairdo, were compared to previous concept photos and magazine shoot pictures by G-Dragon. Additionally, other concept parts of V TYPE 非, such as stacked retro TV background and faded-ink design used in the photobook, were also compared with G-Dragon's projects.
Therefore, many accused Taehyung for alleged imitating or copying G-Dragon's style, thereby criticizing him for monetizing on the soloist's creative ideas. However, many fans soon came to the idol's defense by stating that these concepts have existed in the entertainment industry for a long time. They also explained that most of these styles are borrowed from Western artists, thereby shutting down the rumors that call G-Dragon the blueprint for this style.
Additionally, some also pointed out that these styles have also been adorned by BTS's Taehyung way before the recent photobook concept. They highlighted that the BTS idol has been adorning bold and experimental makeup looks for his previous magazine and album cover shoots since his debut. Therefore, many urged netizens to refrain from the imitation allegations against the idol for his recent V TYPE 非 teaser images.
Here are a few fan reactions regarding the same:
Now you tryna gatekeep makeup? Many other celebrities have done similar style and fav has been doing since ages
This is literally how high fashion editorials look and taehyung has been very vocal about taking inspiration from classic movies and actors for his photoshoots He's not copying your fav chill
The common makeup and hairstyle that your fav also copied from other celebs is not a blueprint so chill 😭😭
1. It’s not even a USB. 2. your fav isn’t the only one to use a TV screen as a prop. 3. Different hair color and pose. 4. Taehyung has had more photos in that pose even before. 5. the spikes aren’t even the same—or I could also say your fav copied it from Black artists.
Others also shared their thoughts and opinions regarding the same.
Kpop stans unserious what do you mean by saying these common makeup and poses belong to your fave? Even Taehyung did them before
kpop stans are genuinely the slowest people alive crying why did you put a bunch of random photos of that man next to taehyung’s curated photo shoot and pressed send tweet praying to god it makes sense 😭😭
So the plagiarism is using the same hair color, using a hat, showing the clavicle, using a red ribbon, TV's, a blue shadow, a heart shape shadow, and a messy hair?
Do you know the difference between plagiarism and referencing the same photo concept? Both Taehyung and GD embrace the concept of fashion art, but no two photos are exactly alike. None of the compositions are technically identical. Each has a different sub-concept
