Trader Joe’s fanatics swear by the popular grocer, getting everything and anything they could need from their local store.
However, even the most loyal of customers will admit that Trader Joe’s misses the mark with some of their products.
A popular discussion on social media centering on the must-avoids recently resurfaced, where otherwise die-hards let loose regarding the items that uninitiated or less expert shoppers ought to avoid while trolling the aisles of the beloved discount retailer.
One fan claimed that people should stay away from “truffle anything” at TJ’s — one truffle item was called out by name: the frozen Porcini Mushroom & Truffle Ravioli.
The frozen meal “left such a bad taste” in the user’s mouth, they had to brush their teeth and tongue after eating it, they said.
Another frozen meal some don’t think is worth it is the Vegetable Pad Thai, which one person said “has to be one of the worst frozen meals they offer, and I normally love Thai food.”
Many people called out Trader Joe’s dressing selections, telling people to avoid the ranch dressing in the grocery aisle, the green goddess in the cold section and the cranberry orange chili crunch “at all costs.”
One person claimed that the Carne Asada meat in the packaged cold meat section is sold raw and “basically tasted like notebook paper.”
Someone else called their shepherd’s pie “inedible.”
“Why is the meat like tasteless canned corned beef without the salt? Why are the potatoes so f–king wet? Horrible,” they wrote.
Long-time shoppers noted that while the mini tacos used to be “bomb,” they lost their magic after being discontinued for a time.
“When they came back they just sucked. They aren’t crispy or crunchy at all, it’s like eating cardboard with cat food inside,” one person said, while another noted that they are now “so rubbery.”
On the other hand, there are plenty of products that Trader Joe’s shoppers refer to as “holy grail” items.
The Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, for example, are a beloved Trader Joe’s snack.
These sweet treats are so popular that they had to be taken out of the running for the store’s annual Customer Choice Awards because they consistently won in their categories.
The candy has now been relegated to the Trader Joe’s Product Hall of Fame.
Other products in the Hall of Fame include the Mandarin Orange Chicken, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Unexpected Cheddar, Soy Chorizo and Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets.
Trader Joe’s frozen hashbrown patties also received a lot of love, as one person lamented that “they’re out of stock more than they’re in stock.”
Many also praised the 99-cent greeting cards, which people said are “the best deal.” One person shared that they “framed one of them, it was so cute.”
Another non-food standout item was the Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen, which is often considered a dupe of the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.
Of course, perhaps the most popular non-grocery item at Trader Joe’s lately has to be their highly collectible mini-tote bags, the viral object of grocery shopping desire, each time another release hits store shelves.
