1) Tactical Time Dilation Gadget

  • Where to find: The Incognito
  • How to get: Obtained during the prologue
  • Effect: Slows down time around you when activated, granting you time to think and act safely. Energy drains while activated, draining faster while moving and after each time you use your weapon. Energy Cost: 1 per second.

Returning from the original game, this mechanic is similar to the VATS system from Bethesda's Fallout games. Upon activation, it slows down time, allowing players to accurately aim at enemies for lining up clean shots. As the first mandatory Gadget obtained during the main quest "A Cause Worth Killing For", it will be given to the protagonist by the NPC Niles Abara.

2) Auntie's Acidic Dematerializer

  • Where to find: The Incognito
  • How to get: Collect from the High Security Lockbox after talking to VALERIE
  • Effect: Fires a spray of extremely volatile goo when activated, dealing Corrosive damage at a very short range. Corpses hit will melt away, preventing others from finding them and acting accordingly. Energy Cost: 40.

Also found in The Incognito, this Gadeget is obtained as part of VALERIE's companion side quest "A Healthy Improvement". This mission will eventually see players get to a High Security Lockbox, which is opened via an Advanced Decryption Key given by VALERIE. This tool vaporizes corpses, making it great for stealth builds to avoid alerting foes.

3) P.A.L.E.

  • Where to find: Sovereign's Sweet Spire Grove
  • How to get: Collected from the body of Jackson Plum
  • Effect: A pair of plasma thruster boot attachments that grant their user the ability to jump in mid-air. WARNING: Thrusters fail to fire at too high a falling velocity! (i.e after 3 seconds)

The Plasmatic Augmented Leap Enhancer (or P.A.L.E. for short) is essentially a Double Jump mechanic in The Outer Worlds 2. It is obtained at the end of the side quest "Perilious Journey to the Grove" on Paradise Island after looting it from the corpse of Jackson Plum. While it allows players to safely jump in mid-air, fall damage is still possible.

4) Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus

  • Where to find: Paradise Island
  • How to get: Rewarded for completing the side quest
  • Effect: Grants a temporary shield when activated, providing temporary health that absorbs any incoming damage. Also repels Zyranium and other dangerous hazards. Energy Cost: 70

As the name suggests, this device creates a shield around the player to deflect Zyranium gas to allow safe passage. This can also be used to navigate other hazards as long as the shield is active, but note that it does not protect against damage from falls from heights. It is rewarded for completing the side quest "An Aegis Against the Miasma".

5) N-Ray Scanner

  • Where to find: Golden Ridge
  • How to get: Picked up from the table in N-Ray Range Sublevel 1
  • Effect: Allows you to see through walls, showing hostiles, wires, and objects of interest. It also grants bonus critical hit chance in combat while the scanner is active. Energy Cost: 4 per second.

During the main missions "On the Trail of the Traitor" and "Discrete Mathematics", players will explore the N-Ray Range, where they will come across this tool sitting on the desk. This allows x-ray vision as well as traps while active, allowing players to stratgeize on the fly or escape tricky situations.

6) Rift Anomaly modulator

  • Where to find: Praetor
  • How to get: Pick up from the table in front of the Rift Anomaly
  • Effect: Matches and manipulates the harmonics of the rift anomalies to temporarily repair the tears they cause in spacetime.

The tool is obtained during the main quest "An Instrument to Unfold Time and Space", so it is unmissable in The Outer Worlds 2. It allows stabilizing rifts, making them safely traversible. This unlocks new locations for players to explore and collect loot from or create new pathways.

The Outer Worlds 2 is on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
