Denver Broncos Sean Payton didn't hold back when discussing New Year's Eve during his end-of-week media availability on Wednesday.

The Denver Broncos coach also heaped praise on his players as the team prepares for their season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

"I didn't know it was New Year's Eve," Payton said. "The most overrated holiday, honestly, like, seriously, I didn't know it was New Year's Eve, and so... And I do find what's interesting is as we get older and you're coaching younger players, these guys are much more in tune with their bodies."

"Today's generation doesn't drink as much. They're in tune with their sleep. You know, this time, you know, here we are finishing. I can think of maybe one player fine late to a meeting, maybe where normally, you know, eight years ago, there'd be 15 or so."

Denver has a 13‑3 record entering the Week 18 contest after clinching the division with a Christmas night win at Kansas City, ending their drought at Arrowhead.

The Broncos have the league’s best record and a victory over the Chargers would ensure that any AFC team hoping to reach the Super Bowl has to go through Mile High in January.

Sean Payton's Denver Broncos will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos will host the Los Angeles Chargers in the season finale on Sunday, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET at Empower Field at Mile High. A win would lock up the AFC’s No. 1 seed and home‑field advantage throughout the playoffs for 13‑3 Denver, which has already clinched the AFC West crown.

Even with a loss, the Broncos are assured of a home playoff game, but could fall as low as the No. 3 seed, depending on the results involving the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Chargers enter Week 18 already eliminated from AFC West contention and out of the race for the conference’s top seed. They are coming off a disappointing 20-16 loss to the Houston Texans.

Matthew Stafford and Co. trailed 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. They tried to make a comeback but ultimately fell short by four points.
