“That’s just too long.”
In more than 23 minutes of chatting with reporters Monday morning in the home dugout at Clover Park, as his players trickled out for their first full-squad workout of 2026, Steve Cohen covered a lot of terrain, but no sentence resonated more.
It came in the context of mentioning the season-long commemoration of the 1986 champions that will be taking place this year at Citi Field. But it was there in the commiseration that it has been 40 years since the last Mets title.
And the eighth-longest active title drought in MLB — well, “That’s just too long.”
