Back in the 2010-11 season, the Buffalo Sabres narrowly missed out on making Round 2 of the NHL playoffs when they fell to the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 of a tightly contested series. Since then the team based out of Buffalo, New York have failed to make the playoffs each and every time.
The run, which now extends more than a decade is the longest in league history. Often the punchline among NHL fans for their playoff drought, things might finally be turning around for Buffalo.
A 4-1 road win against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday pushed the Sabres to their 10th consecutive victory, tying a franchise record and igniting optimism across social media that this may finally be the year the drought ends.
Following are what some fans had to say on X:

The roster has been there for years. Just needed someone in charge to lead…
One fan though was quick to point out that despite their recent winning streak, the team only finds themselves occupying the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference leaving little room for error.
I mean good for them, but having to win 10 in a row to get to the 2nd wild card is rough lol
Still, with the longest active winning streak in the league, the Sabres will be optimistic about their chances of making the cut come mid-April.
Sabres match franchise milestone behind Tage Thompson’s three-point night in Dallas
Tage Thompson led the charge at American Airlines Center, scoring twice and adding an assist as the Sabres continued their rapid climb into playoff contention. The Sabres have now won 10 straight games for just the fourth time in franchise history, last accomplishing the feat during a November run in 2018. Speaking after the game, Thompson weighed in on their performance and what it means to the team.
“It’s a lot of fun when you’re winning. We’re riding a little high right now, but at the same time, I think we’ve done a pretty good job after a win of coming back down to earth and making sure we’re ready for the next game,” he said.Buffalo showed resilience early on after conceding just 15 seconds into the game, when Mavrik Bourque opened the scoring for the Stars. Rather than unravel, the team stayed composed, something Bowen Byram said reflects a growing belief within the room.
“There have been instances where stuff like that happens in the game early, we fall behind, and we could never claw our way out of it,” Byram said. “We have a lot of confidence right now no matter what the score is.”The Sabres will look to keep their hot form going when they take to the road again to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday at the Nationwide Arena.
