AEW President Tony Khan revealed what led to a major star's hiatus during a crucial tournament. Darby Allin has been one of the company's top stars. He is known for his daring stunts inside the ring. Fans were excited for his participation in this year's Continental Classic tournament. He faced Kevin Knight and lost in the first match.

Unfortunately, after just one match in the tourney, the former TNT Champion was deemed unfit for the tournament. Jack Perry replaced him for the rest of the competition. The Relentless star reportedly hurt his leg during his latest match and was hospitalised immediately.

While speaking with TV Insider, Tony Khan claimed that Darby Allin's injury was serious and that doctors restricted him from entering the ring.

"It was a serious enough injury at the time that Darby Allin had. He is one of the toughest people in the world in my opinion and had to step out of the tournament. He didn’t want to be taken out. The doctors felt that he shouldn’t continue. It was certainly from an accumulation of injuries from all the crazy things he has done in the ring and outside the ring, ringside area and backstage and all the crazy fights we’ve seen Darby in. They take its toll,” Tony said. [H/T - TV Insider]

Tony Khan says Darby Allin's hiatus led to a lot of issues

During last year's Continental Classic tournament, Juice Robinson injured his leg and was therefore replaced. This year, Darby Allin had to be pulled out of the tourney. Tony Khan recently discussed how it affected the Jacksonville-based promotion booking.

During the Worlds End media call, the AEW President revealed that the former TNT Champion's absence led to scheduling issues and an overall disruption to the tournament's flow, which they didn't experience last year.

It remains to be seen when the Relentless star will make his return.
