If you had any plans of attending the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers matchup at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, prepare to pay a pretty penny.
The New York Post's Stefan Bondy reported on Thursday that the average ticket cost is through the roof.
"According to TickPick, Knicks-Lakers on Sunday is the most expensive NBA game since Kobe's final appearance in 2016," Bondy wrote on X. "The average purchase price for Sunday is $912, according to TickPick."
The anticipation of the historic matchup and the players involved may be one reason for the high ticket prices. Now more than ever, fans want to see the Knicks' Jalen Brunson face off against Luka Doncic and LeBron James.
Kobe Bryant's last game at MSG
ABC News reported in April 2016 that the cheapest ticket listed on StubHub to attend Kobe Bryant's final game was $729. Tickets sold for as high as $27,500.
Bryant's final game at Madison Square Garden was November 8, 2015. He scored 18 points in a 99-95 loss against the Knicks. He set the record for the most points scored in a game as an opponent at MSG in 2009, racking up 61 points on 19-for-31 shooting from the field.
Ten years later, James Harden tied Bryant's record by scoring a career high 61 points at MSG as a member of the Houston Rockets.
