Proposed Yankees trade sees New York counter Mets' Freddy Peralta move, deal Luis Gil, empty the farm for $300 million two-time Cy Young

With the New York Mets dealing for Freddy Peralta, and the Los Angeles Dodgers having the top rotation in baseball, the New York Yankees need to make a big move in order to contend with their NL rivals. Luckily, there is one move that honestly only they can make.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline, proposes that New York shells out, and deals for Detroit Tigers two-time Cy Young Tarik Skubal. Skubal would instantly become the Yanks’ ace, and when their other stars return, solidify New York’s rotation as the best in the MLB.

The trade would look like this:

Yankees get: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers get: RHP Luis Gil, SS George Lombard Jr. (NYY #1), OF Spencer Jones (NYY #4), RHP Chase Hampton (NYY #8)

“With the Mets acquiring Freddy Peralta and the Dodgers expressing confidence in their comically stacked rotation, it feels like the New York Yankees are the most logical destination for Tarik Skubal. That assumes, of course, that Detroit can squeeze enough value out of New York's farm system, which remains to be seen. The Yankees, however, have a need for starting pitching and the money to compete for Skubal on the open market, which gives them an edge,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Skubal won his second Cy Young in a row, posting a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA, 241 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.891 in 195 innings pitched. He’s definitively the best pitcher in baseball, and would be combined with another Cy Young in Gerrit Cole, and multi-time All-Stars in Carlos Rodon and Max Fried.

Finally, as Kline mentioned, New York might be one of the few teams that can afford Skubal's projected monster contract. So, hopefully, the Yankees make this trade, as the Dodgers seem like the inevitable favorite for a three-peat. At this point, it’s go all-out or bust.
