Liverpool boss Arne Slot reckons his side was missing a goal after they were held to a frustrating stalemate by Leeds United. The two sides locked horns in the Premier League at Anfield on Thursday, January 1.

The Reds' three-game win streak came to an abrupt end as they struggled to create many chances from their 68 percent possession rate. Hugo Ekitike was unable to convert two decent opportunities in the first half, while Virgil van Dijk headed wide after the break, despite being left unmarked inside the box.

Slot was left frustrated after the game, reflecting upon the lack of chances Liverpool created, which resulted in the 0-0 draw. When asked what was missing tonight, he responded (via @AnfieldSector):

“A goal. That’s the most simple answer. To score a goal against a team that is defending so well in and around their box. There’s a few ways to unlock it - that is for some teams in this league, a set piece. We were close with Virgil. Another way to unlock it is a quick one v one with Jeremie… I think we are the team with the most ball possession in the league, it doesn’t mean a lot if you can’t create enough chances…”

As per FotMob, the hosts were the dominant side going forward, landing 19 shots in total. However, only four attempts were on target as they garnered an xG of 2.08. Meanwhile, Leeds defended well and managed four shots in total, with two being on target (xG of 0.69).

Liverpool star Alisson Becker creates Premier League history after Leeds stalemate

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker created Premier League history by reaching an impressive milestone of 100 league clean sheets following their 0-0 draw against Leeds United. The Brazil international is the fifth goalkeeper in the club's history to reach this figure, following Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar, Pepe Reina, and Elisha Scott.

Alisson has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2018. The 33-year-old has kept 132 clean sheets in 314 appearances across all competitions. He has also kept six clean sheets in 18 league appearances this season.

The Reds will aim to return to winning ways in their next fixture against Fulham on Sunday, January 4.
