The Texas A&M coach, Jamie Morrison, shared an advice for all the volleyball players shortly after his team's National Championship win. The final round of the 2025 NCAA volleyball championship took place on December 21 at Kansas City, Missouri.
The Aggies claimed the NCAA title by defeating the Kentucky Wildcats. They swept their opponents, registering a score of 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-20). The right-side hitter, Logan Lednicky, led her team to the victory, claiming 11 kills, 1 assist, and 7 digs.
Shortly after the triumph, the team's coach, Morrison, spoke to Volleybrains. He was asked to share a message for every volleyball player out there. Emphasizing self discovery and advising them to just be themselves on the court, he said:
"I think it would be something along the lines of like do self discovery and understand who you are and who you want to become. I think whenever I am talking to athletes that have figured out kind of those things, they're able to truly be themselves on the court. And it's not I'm trying to bounce around from doing this. I'm not searching for the skill, for example, either of like how to pass. It's this is how I pass. I'm not searching for how do I want to compete. I want to be told how to do it. It's this is who I am and I'm going to show that to the world In this instance," said Texas A&M's coach. He added:
"I just think for every athlete and there's a discovery piece of that happens and it changes over time."This victory was Texas A&M's first-ever NCAA win in the collegiate history.
Texas A&M's coach James Morrison made his feelings known about the National Championship win
Following the historic win, Texas A&M's coach, Jamie Morrison, spoke to ESPN about the victory. Exuding pride in the players, he opened up about the hard work they put in this year. He also spoke about their unsuccessful run in the 2024 NCAA championships and how their graph has changed in this season.
"Pride, happiness. Just they put in a lot of work and to get them to see the fruition at the end. And last year, I was in tears just on the floor at Nebraska when we lost to Wisconsin. It was just our girls gave us everything and they didn't get to see the result of going to the Elite Eight at that point," said Texas A&M's coach. He added:
"And really, two, whatever, that was, two nights ago after we won in the semifinal, I just sat in the locker room just quietly watching them celebrate and this is about them. And this is their experience, their journey. I am helping guide it in the right direction."Ahead of the NCAA finals, James Morrison credited the Texas A&M seniors for building a long-lasting legacy.
