The Houston Texans have a really strong chance of winning the AFC South this season. But before the year has even begun, things got harder for Houston.
Outside of Nico Collins, the Texans have been looking for another wide receiver to take a leap in this group. Jayden Higgins appeared to be that player, as he was playing well this summer leading up to the season.
But he went down at practice, and as NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports, Higgins is now out for the entire 2026 season due to a torn ACL.
Jayden Higgins out for 2026 season due to torn ACL
"Sources: Texans WR Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL yesterday during the joint practice against the Raiders. A tough blow to the Houston receiving room," Rapoport reports.
This is some brutal news for Higgins and the Texans, as the second-year receiver was poised for a larger role this season after posting 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie year.
But now, Higgins is going to miss his entire second season in the NFL due to this brutal torn ACL. The Texans just lost a key receiver and now have to turn to their backup options.

Other than Collins, the Texans and C.J. Stroud will now rely on Jaylin Noel, Tank Dell, coming off a very serious injury of his own, and Xavier Hutchinson.
Lewis Bond and Justin Watson are two other receivers worth mentioning as key offseason pickups. But now the Texans might be eyeing up a veteran to add to this group with Dell's uncertainty and Higgins' season-ending ACL tear.
This is a terrible update for Higgins and the Texans, as the 23-year-old receiver's rout of Iowa State is done for the season before it even began.
