Team USA's World Baseball Classic manager, Mark DeRosa, is receiving major scutiny over the last few days for mixing up his club's quarterfinal chances in Pool B.
DeRosa said he misspoke after previously stating the United States had punched its ticket to the next round before their 8-6 loss against Italy.
The reality was that even though the USA was 3-0, they needed an Italy win against Mexico, and or tiebreakers to fall in its favor. Italy walked away victorious and gave DeRosa's club an opportunity to win the program's first WBC championship since 2017.
However, there are several roster changes taking place, including the pitching staff.
Dodgers legend's last game with the USA will be Friday
According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, DeRosa has stated that left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw's last game with the USA will be this Friday against Canada.
Following the game, he will be removed from the USA's roster in favor of Minnesota Twins ace Joe Ryan. Kershaw has not made an appearance in the WBC but was seen warming up in the bullpen against Italy.
The Los Angeles Dodgers legend announced his retirement from MLB this past September after an illustrious 18-year career. Friday's game gives him one last opportunity to make a difference on the mound in professional baseball.
