The Baltimore Orioles have spent this past offseason really overhauling their roster, but they still have a few holes in their roster. One of those holes is they don’t really have a shutdown lefty reliever.
They have two in Keegan Akin and Dietrich Enns, but neither are guys you can count on to shut down batters for an inning consistently. FanSided’s Chris Landers predicts the O’s will fix this by signing a veteran star in Danny Coulombe, who’s been a great reliever for the past few years.
“It's a mystery why Coulombe has yet to sign with a team, considering the constant need for lefty relievers and the fact that he's pitched to a 2.38 ERA with over a strikeout per inning over the last three seasons. Two of those seasons came in Baltimore, and it just so happens that the O's could use another left-handed look in the bullpen beyond Keegan Akin and Dietrich Enns,” Landers wrote.
This past season, Coulombe posted a 2.30 ERA, 43 Ks, a WHIP of 1.163, and two saves in 55 games. He would be an amazing late game reliever for the O’s, and could truly make their bullpen scary upon Felix Bautista’s return.
He’d also be cost-effective, as well. His market value calls for him to receive a one-year, $4.3 million deal, which is definitely doable for the O’s.
Hopefully, the O’s nab him soon; otherwise, another contender will finally swoop in and grab him before Baltimore can.
