Baseball is in Kyle Harrison's blood. His grandfather, Skip Guinn, was a left-handed pitcher who pitched three seasons between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros in the late 60s and early 70s.
Harrison, like his grandfather, is also a left-handed pitcher and has a funky low below-three-quarter-slot delivery, which has proved to be tough against opposing batters.
The lefty would go 21-1 with an impressive 1.19 ERA across his high school career. That caught the attention of the San Francisco Giants, who selected him in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
Brewers' projected breakout candidate could surprise the fans
Harrison would go on to make his MLB debut during the 2023 season and would make 24 starts the following year. However, he was optioned to start the 2025 season before being recalled in May. Shortly after, the Giants would trade him to the Boston Red Sox as part of the Rafael Devers trade.
But Harrison would not last long in Boston. In February, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of the Caleb Durbin trade.
Now, the LHP will look to catch on with a team that is known for getting the most out of its pitching staff. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel tags him as a potential breakout candidate for the squad.
"Milwaukee has a long history of finding value in pitchers of all different types and Harrison could be next, after he was acquired from the Red Sox in the Caleb Durbin deal. His upshot fastball and new, nasty changeup, along with his sweeper, give him three above-average pitches. I don't think Jacob Misiorowski is seen as a breakout candidate, considering how he burst onto the scene last season."
Some might believe the hard-throwing Misiorowski should be the breakout candidate, but some would argue that's exactly what he did last season, making an All-Star appearance.
So, while much is expected from Misiorowski, Kyle Harrison is the real player that fans will want to pay attention to.
