Taylor Swift has no regrets about her raspy voice.
The singer just made history as the youngest woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and during her speech, she recognized how raspy her voice was because she was cheering on the New York Knicks the night before.
“I got home and was like, ‘You gotta stop screaming, you’re screaming too much, you’re screaming instead of talking, you’re too excited,’” Swift joked during her speech at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York City on Thursday, June 11.
Swift attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals as she cheered on the Knicks as they faced the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks had a nail-biter 106-107 win against the Spurs to now lead 3-1 in the series.
The singer has no regrets about the night as she added that she was yelling “100 percent” during the game. What also aided in her raspy voice was her praise for Sombr, Brandi Carlile, Billy Corgan, SistaStrings and Johnny Rzeznik who performed at the ceremony.
"Then I got to witness the amazing performances I saw tonight, and I just kept screaming, and I never stopped screaming, and this is what you get,” Swift quipped.
“I make no apologies for that — I’ve had a blast,” she said.
During her 21-minute speech, the singer thanked her parents Scott and Andrea Swift, as well as her younger brother Austin Swift for their support.
“It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life, but it couldn’t have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world,” she said, per Variety. “But after making obvious that this was not even remotely a temporary phase their teen daughter was going through, they uprooted their entire lives to move me to Music City. And even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for doing that for me. You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”
Swift might need to save her voice if she plans on watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals, as the Knicks went on the road to face the Spurs and will play on Saturday, June 13.
