Taylor Swift’s snake-print boots and bag are made from mushrooms — and cost almost $3,000

Taylor Swift fans may not be getting those “Reputation” vault tracks any time soon, but the pop icon still has a soft spot for snakes.

For proof, look no further than the outfit she wore for a night out with pal Gigi Hadid in NYC Monday night: a classic black Auter peacoat ($1,450) paired with a pleated miniskirt and a snake-print bag ($975) and boots ($1,775) from one of her longtime favorite labels, Stella McCartney.

Both accessories may appear to be crafted from real snakeskin, but in keeping with the company’s animal-friendly, cruelty-free ethos, they’re actually fashioned from YATAY M — a vegan alternative made of mushroom mycelium, the root-like structures of fungi.

“Every year, over 500,000 pythons are killed for fashion in Southeast Asia alone,” the Stella McCartney team shared in a press release, adding that production of YATAY M “never [harms] animals.”

Swift’s been a fan of the brand’s cruelty-free styles for the past decade, often incorporating them into her street style looks.

in 2019, she and McCartney partnered on a capsule collection and pop-up inspired by the musician’s “Lover” album. (The designer even scored a shout-out in Swift’s track “London Boy.”)

“I respect what she creates, how she creates it,” the songwriter shared in an Instagram Live announcing the collaboration. “There’s so much whimsy and imagination and romance to the clothing that she designs.”

McCartney dressed Swift for her “Evermore” album shoot the following year, sharing on Instagram at the time that “knowing someone well makes creating something for them easier.”

Added the British designer, “With Taylor, everything happened so naturally; the pieces I made reflected the effortless emotionality of her album. Complementing a friend’s creation is rare and precious and feels incredibly special.”
