Swansea City welcome Manchester City to the Swansea.com Stadium in the fourth round of the EFL Cup this Wednesday.

Swansea will come into this match having eliminated Premier League opposition in the third round, and the game will be their fourth overall in the competition. Manchester City, meanwhile, dumped out Huddersfield in the third round.

So who will progress to the quarter-finals this Wednesday?

Swansea City vs Manchester City Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • Swansea City have faced Manchester City on two occasions in cup competitions since their relegation from the Premier League in 2018, losing both times. In fact, the Swans have lost all six of their most recent meetings with Manchester City, dating back to September 2016.
  • Swansea currently occupy 13th place in the EFL Championship, having won four, drawn four and lost four. Weirdly, they've also scored the same number of league goals as they've conceded - 12. They will come into this match on the back of a win over Norwich, though.
  • Manchester City saw a nine-match unbeaten streak snapped this past weekend, when they were defeated 1-0 by Aston Villa. In doing so, Villa became the first team to prevent City from scoring since Tottenham way back on August 23.
  • It feels very unlikely that we'll see a similar game to Swansea's last one in the EFL Cup. That third round tie saw them come from 0-2 down to defeat Nottingham Forest 3-2, with the final two goals coming in the 93rd and 97th minutes.
  • While he didn't score against Aston Villa this weekend, Manchester City's Erling Haaland has been in incredible form this season. He's already scored a total of 24 goals for club and country in just 15 appearances.

Swansea City vs Manchester City Prediction

While Swansea City will be hopeful that they can cause an upset after their defeat of Nottingham Forest in the previous round of the EFL Cup, it feels unlikely they will do so here.

Manchester City did lose to Aston Villa at the weekend, but overall they've looked very strong throughout this campaign, and even if Pep Guardiola makes multiple changes for this match, his squad have plenty of strength in depth.

Add in the fact that Swansea have not been in great home form this season - they've only won two of their seven league matches there - and it's easy to predict an away win here.

Prediction: Swansea City 1-3 Manchester City
