Brad Culpepper and Monica Culpepper’s son Rex Culpepper died following a dirt bike accident, the Tampa Bay Times confirmed. He was 28.

While his parents—his mom appeared on season 24 before Brad joined her in 2013 for Blood vs. Water—have not yet spoken out, his siblings Honor Culpepper and Judge Culpepper shared a joint statement on Instagram March 16.

“Oh, our Rex, our biggest brother,” they wrote alongside throwback pics with their brother. “You were the center of all Universe’s. I don’t have the words right now, and I’m not sure I will.”

A celebrated Syracuse University quarterback, Rex played on the team from 2017 to 2020.

Though he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2018, he continued to dominate the field, earning the school’s Jim DaRin Courage Award, which recognizes “a player who displays extraordinary courage in overcoming significant obstacles, injury, illness, or personal tragedy,” according to the Syracuse football website.

“Our Orange family mourns the loss of Rex Culpepper, who passed away this weekend,” read a March 16 statement on the team’s official X account. “Rex lived his life with endless passion, having overcome cancer at the age of 20 while playing for the Orange. Appearing in 30 games, Rex played football as fierce as he lived life.”

The statement concluded, “Our hearts are with the Culpepper family & all those who loved him.”

Less than one month before his fatal accident, Rex proposed to Savanna Morgan, who honored his life with a heartfelt message.

“No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting,” she wrote in a March 16 Instagram post alongside photos of the couple. “Rex didnt always believe in soulmates but towards the end he told me that he didnt realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other. And one thing about us is that we lived every single day like it was our last.”

“You dont just meet people like Rex all the time,” she added. “He was one in a billion.”
