"Strong chance Bears trade Caleb Williams": Ex-NFL scout claims Ben Johnson will move off struggling QB in 2026

When Ben Johnson was named as the Chicago Bears' coach, expectations rose for Caleb Williams to grow exponentially under an offensive guru like him. However, his 2025 campaign has been inconsistent and erratic. The Bears are ranked No.15 in terms of a passing offense, averaging 217.1 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Last week, Ben Johnson and his team suffered a 28-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers, ending their five-game winning streak. Caleb Williams completed 19 of 35 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. On Saturday, ex-NFL scout Daniel Kelly expressed his doubts about the quarterback's future with the franchise.

According to him, there is a high possibility that the Bears decide to trade Caleb Williams after the 2025 season.

"I think there's a strong chance the Bears trade Caleb Williams this off-season," Kelly tweeted on X.

Before this, Daniel Kelly also highlighted how the Bears are focusing on a running game under Ben Johnson. They are ranked No.5, averaging 369.7 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also took a shot at Williams' completion percentage while highlighting the team's run game.

"Bears head coach Ben Johnson is bringing back the run game in the NFL. Per teamrankings.com. No.2 rushing attack (152.6 yards per game). No.4 time of possession (32:03). He's been able to get a 9-4 record with the No.27 ranked defense and a quarterback with a 57.8% completion percentage. Think about that.

So far, Williams has recorded 2,908 yards and 19 TDs passing with six interceptions to his name. He's also rushed for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

After the Week 14 loss to the Packers, the Bears are second in the NFC North with a 9-4 record.

Retired Super Bowl champion Kurt Warner highlights major red flag in Caleb Williams' game

On Thursday's episode of "The Scoop City" podcast, retired NFL star Kurt Warner discussed the Bears quarterback's sophomore campaign under coach Ben Johnson.

According to him, Williams has a lot of areas to improve in his game, particularly his passing accuracy.

"Caleb's gotta be more efficient at hitting the layups that are out there," Warner said. "When Ben creates plays, whether it's a read or a throw, and it's what I would call elementary level, ... he's gotta do a better job of making those plays. "If he doesn't, it's going to cost him against good football teams. When you have to play two or three of those teams, you can't miss easy opportunities and think that you're going to make up for that. I don't think Chicago's that good. I think they're a good team. I don't think they're that good or I don't think Caleb's that good right now to overcome that and make a run that way."

The Bears next face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
