I thought the Syracuse underground rapper Stove God Cooks was primed for a big breakout back in 2022, when he was making a lot of appearances on Westside Gunn tracks. But Stove God got into a long, bitter dispute with the indie label Babygrande, and it stalled his momentum. He still hasn't released an album since his Roc Marciano-produced 2020 debut Reasonable Drought. But now, Stove God has made peace with Babygrande, and he's working on a new album with executive producer Swizz Beatz.
Today, Stove God Cooks announces what a press release calls a "strategic partnership" with both Babygrande and Warner Records. He's got a new album called All This For Me? on the way, and Swizz Beatz produced his new single "Stovie's Home (Down Down)." It's a glossier version of the hard, chaotic music that Stove God used to make with his Griselda comrades. I'd rather hear him settle into a groove and talk his shit, but his precision and charisma still come through. Check it out below.
