NFL legend Shannon Sharpe offered a reality check to Lakers coach JJ Redick on Saturday. His blunt response came after Redick highlighted a clear issue the team has faced, particularly around LeBron James’ role within the lineup.
Sharpe shared his take on JJ Redick during an appearance on "Nightcap" alongside Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, while revisiting the coach’s past criticism of Doc Rivers.
"I think JJ is phenomenal. I know he understands basketball and can talk about it," Sharpe said (Timestamp: 1:41:15). "But at the end of the day, he was criticizing Doc at one point too. Stop telling us what you need to do and just get it done."•

"Since we've gotten Bron back, we haven't been organized offensively," Redick said on Saturday. "Too many random possessions, that's on me, its those three things definsive clarity, role clarity and offensive organization."Although a fair assessment, Sharpe believed Redick was stating the obvious, as the Lakers have no defensive players on their roster.
"We don't need no defensive clarity, you don't have anybody that can play defense," Sharpe said. "Luka can't play defense, Austin Reaves can't play defense, LeBron is at the age he cannot play defense, Rui is not a defensive guy."Despite Sharpe’s response to Redick, the Lakers have continued to struggle offensively since LeBron’s return.
After boasting one of the league’s top offenses earlier in the season, Los Angeles is now averaging 116.9 points per game, the 16th-best mark in the NBA. While LeBron is contributing to the scoreboard, the Lakers’ offense has lost its rhythm and will need to click quickly to stay competitive.
NFL legend weighs in on JJ Redick’s comments about LeBron James and the Lakers’ lack of role clarity
JJ Redick's comments on LeBron James and the Lakers' lack of role clarity have landed him in hot water.
NFL legend Shannon Sharpe was among many who reacted to Redick's comments and weighed in on the discussion on Saturday.
"It's crystal clear for me. You can't play defense. You got three offensive guys and you try to outscore," Sharpe said (Timestamp: 1:38:20). "Luka can’t play without the ball, so it has to be in his hands most of the time. That’s clear." "Austin Reaves will have it the second most. LeBron James is actually the one best equipped to play off the ball, so now he becomes your third option."Although he simplified Redick’s comments, Sharpe still made a fair point, as the Lakers now need to respond after dropping three straight games.
