The India Women’s team recorded their highest-ever total in T20 Internationals during the fourth match of the five-game series against Sri Lanka. The match is being played on Sunday, December 28, at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Put in to bat, India made a strong start as openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 61 runs in the powerplay. Shafali continued her good run of form, reaching her half-century off 30 balls, her third consecutive fifty of the series. Mandhana soon followed, bringing up her fifty in 35 deliveries.

The duo went on to put together a 162-run opening partnership off 92 balls, the highest opening stand for India Women in T20Is. Mandhana scored 80 off 48 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes, and in the process became India’s leading six-hitter in the format with 80 sixes, going past skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (78). Shafali made 79 off 46 balls, hitting 12 fours and one six.

In the death overs, Richa Ghosh provided the finishing touches with a blistering cameo. She added an unbeaten 53-run stand for the third wicket off just 23 balls alongside Harmanpreet. Richa remained not out on 40 off 16 deliveries, while the captain finished unbeaten on 16 off 10 balls. India eventually closed their innings at 221-2 in 20 overs, eclipsing their previous best T20I total of 217-4 against the West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium in December 2024.
