The Pittsburgh Steelers lost in Week 4 to the Cleveland Browns in primetime, dropping to 2-2 on the season. That loss came shortly after trading away Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys.
This Steelers team lost one of their top cornerbacks in a trade, and then one of their best remaining corners, Jamel Dean, suffered an injury and is likely to miss some time. So, the Steelers had to make a move.
According to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, the Steelers have gone out and signed a cornerback off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad. Pittsburgh is reportedly adding six-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion Sean Murphy-Bunting.
Steelers to sign Sean Murphy-Bunting amid CB problems
"The Steelers are signing veteran CB Sean Murphy-Bunting off the Bucs' practice squad, per source," Pelissero reported Monday.
With Porter now in Dallas and Dean banged up, the Steelers needed to make a move for some cornerback help. That's where the poaching of Murphy-Bunting off the Buccaneers' practice squad comes in.
He's a six-year NFL veteran who helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl. He has 11 interceptions in his NFL career, including three in 2024, the last year he played in the NFL.

Murphy-Bunting wasn't a starter, or even a backup, last season, but he's the kind of veteran cornerback the Steelers could benefit from adding to their depth chart as it's beginning to be questioned.
This is not a needle-moving addition, but considering the options available to them, there is at least some intriguing upside with Murphy-Bunting.
He might not be the only move either, as the Steelers losing two cornerbacks, one due to injury and the other a trade, could lead to Pittsburgh finding another cornerback to add at some point this season.
