Steelers signing says everything you need to know about Kaleb Johnson

The Pittsburgh Steelers' actions are speaking much louder than words.

They don't have to say anything about the young running back Kaleb Johnson for it to be very clear what they think.

All they had to do on Monday was quickly move to sign Rico Dowdle to replace Kenneth Gainwell.

You see, Gainwell was a free agent, and he signed quickly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

At that point, for a few hours, the Steelers' RB depth chart had Jaylen Warren backed up by Johnson.

But then the Steelers landed Dowdle from the Panthers as a replacement for Gainwell.

That relegated Johnson back to the third position on the depth chart. After a rookie season of almost nothing, he's looking at another year like that.

It's a pretty surprising development when you consider the Steelers picked Johnson No. 83 overall, in the third round, in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Iowa.

Johnson proceeded to get into just 10 games, and he finished with 28 rushes for 69 yards, less than three yards per carry.

He caught just one pass for nine yards and also had a fumble.

It was nothing like Johnson's All-American year at Iowa to end his college career, and the Steelers must not have liked what they saw in practice.

Unless something drastic happens, this is already starting to feel like it'll be a whiff of a draft pick.
