Steelers sign 30-year-old former Lions cornerback amid injuries in secondary

The Pittsburgh Steelers have added a veteran cornerback to their active roster.

The Steelers announced on Thursday that they have signed 30-year-old veteran cornerback Tre Flowers to the 53-man roster.

The Steelers are the second team Flowers will play for this season, as he appeared in two games with the Detroit Lions earlier in the campaign.

Flowers has also played in games for the Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts during his career.

The signing of Flowers comes amid the Steelers dealing with multiple injuries in their cornerbacks room.

James Pierre sat out last week with a calf injury and Brandin Echols is battling a groin problem. Both players are on the injury report this week, and Pierre was limited on Wednesday while Echols did not take part in practice.

The fact that the Steelers are adding Flowers suggests they're concerned about Pierre and or Echols playing this week.
