Steelers rumor from team insider gives expected answer on Aaron Rodgers' future

The Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting to see whether they will need a new starting quarterback in 2026, as Aaron Rodgers' football future is uncertain as he mulls retirement.

Rodgers signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh last offseason and led the team to an AFC North division title in 2025. However, due to his age and decline in play, Rodgers could look to finally call it a career after 21 seasons.

Though retirement is definitely an option for Rodgers, a Steelers insider believes the veteran signal-caller will return to Pittsburgh next season.

During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Steelers reporter and correspondent Mark Kaboly said that the Steelers expect Rodgers to be in Pittsburgh in 2026 as the starting quarterback.

"I think he will be their starting quarterback unless he comes to some kind of decision over the next month that he’s just done with football 100 percent. This is him basically saying he’s coming back without him admitting he’s coming back. What I’ve heard a lot is they’re expecting him to come back. They are under the impression that he still wants to play," Kaboly said on 93.7 The Fan.

Rodgers isn't the same player he once was, but he's still a solid starter.

The 42-year-old tossed 24 touchdowns to seven interceptions with a 65.7% completion rate.

If Rodgers decides to come back and play in 2026, Pittsburgh should get a deal done with the future Hall of Fame and finally have some stability at quarterback.
