Memo to President Trump: Don’t miss this historic moment to strike Iran and end its terror regime

The Iranian regime, which has been spreading death and terror around the world for almost half a century, is close to collapse.

What better time for President Donald Trump to strike and kick over the rotten timbers supporting it, helping liberate its 90 million people, transform the Middle East and ensure his place in history?

He must not miss this chance.

Trump has sent a “massive armada” to the Persian Gulf after threatening to “hit Iran hard” if it used lethal force against its own people; he personally called upon the people of Iran to “keep protesting” because “help is on its way.”

The regime ignored him his threat: It wantonly massacred thousands, with some reports putting the toll as high as 30,000.

Anything short of a direct, lethal attack on the mullahs and the Revolutionary Guard would crater the reputations and good names of America and President Trump.

It would mean the deaths of those thousands of pro-freedom protesters were in vain; protesters who risked their lives believing his vow that “help is on the way” will feel betrayed, those who survived anyway.

Failure to make good on his promises would also mark a return to the feckless foreign policy of recent years, as when Barack Obama swore in 2012 that the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime would mark a “red line” that would trigger kinetic action against Syria.

Obama’s failure to follow through showed Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin that an American threat could be read as no more than a “maybe.” Two years later Russia occupied and annexed Crimea.

Trump has even more grounds to strike: Iran may be planning to rebuild its nuclear facilities, which Trump bombed last year.

Satellite imagery shows new roofs over Isfahan and Natanz facilities blocking observation of activity underneath and preventing the International Atomic Energy Agency from monitoring the sites.

Some experts think the roofs may be meant to hide attempts to salvage whatever parts of nuclear program survived.

On top of that, Iran’s missile program and terror proxies, like Hezbollah, continue to pose a threat.

True, Tehran has signaled it wants some kind of “deal,” and Trump has been open to one.

But the regime can’t be trusted. In any case, it must pay a price its savagery. And if US strikes help the protesters topple it, all the better.

President Trump, you have legitimate grounds to attack. And the eyes of the world are on you.

Deliver on your promise to the people of Iran now, before the chance passes by.
