If there's anyone who could use a change of scenery, it's Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson.
Drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft, Wilson has been a total zero over his two seasons in the league, which is hard to fathom considering Pittsburgh has had one of the worst wide receivers rooms in the league in that span.
It's hard to tell how much of Wilson's struggles to get looks are on him and how much of it was on the previous coaching staff, but we would guess it's a bit of both.
Perhaps things change with new head coach Mike McCarthy, but if the Steelers do not think they will, they should shop the Michigan product around and see what they can get for him.
In a mock offseason article for the Steelers, Behind The Steel Curtain's Jarrett Bailey predicts Pittsburgh will indeed trade Wilson in a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers that would see the Steelers get a 2027 sixth-round pick.
"I stand by the fact that Wilson needs a fresh start elsewhere after doing next to nothing in his first two seasons with the Steelers. Being a consistent healthy scratch down the stretch all but sealed his fate as a guy who isn’t in the Steelers’ plans. Send him to his college coach, Jim Harbaugh, and a Chargers team that could use some help at the receiver position," Bailey wrote of his prediction.
Wilson probably wouldn't mind playing for a head coach he had a ton of success with in college, but we're not so sure this is a good fit for Wilson or Los Angeles.
While the majority of Wilson's snaps have come on the outside during his career, he really profiles as a slot receiver, a role already taken by Ladd McConkey.
Even if the Chargers want to deploy him on the outside, there isn't a clear path to a lot of snaps there for Wilson, either, as Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris are still under contract.
Perhaps the Chargers would go ahead and trade for Wilson anyway, but when you take a look at the wide receivers room in Los Angeles, it wouldn't be a great situation for Wilson.
