Linebacker Fred Warner is one of the best players in football and a franchise cornerstone for the San Francisco 49ers, but it sounds like there is a scenario where the team could trade the All-Pro defender.
According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, the 49ers could be willing to move Warner if they can bring back Dre Greenlaw, who is currently a starter for the Denver Broncos.
"I don’t know if San Francisco will trade Warner. Heard they might consider it if somehow they could get Dre Greenlaw back in the fold. I’m not playing games like some are suggesting on here," Stapleton said.
Even though he played just six games due to an ankle injury, the 49ers would be absolutely foolish to trade Warner, as he's one of the premier defensive players in football and the lifeblood of San Francisco's defense.
However, if San Francisco does entertain offers for Warner, the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and obviously, the Broncos should have interest.
Dallas needs to find an upgrade over Kenneth Murray at off-ball linebacker, and adding Warner would be an electric move that elevates the Cowboys' defense. However, it's hard to imagine John Lynch trading Warner to the Cowboys, an arch-rival of the 49ers.
New York also needs linebacker help after releasing Bobby Okereke, so Warner could be a trade target for Joe Schoen and John Harbaugh.
Finally, Denver could pull off a trade with San Francisco for Warner by including Greenlaw in the package, who the 49ers want back, per Stapleton.
It would be shocking if Warner isn't in a 49ers uniform in 2026, but if he does get traded, the Cowboys, Giants, and Broncos come to mind as landing spots.
