Steelers OC’s Will Howard comments might be a telling sign of Aaron Rodgers pursuit

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter camp with a big question mark: Who will be the starting quarterback?

Currently, the Steelers have Skylar Thompson, Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard on the roster. At the same time, the Steelers are still waiting to see what Aaron Rodgers will decide to do, and rumors have even swirled about a potential trade for Kirk Cousins

On Friday, Howard signed a four-year rookie contract after he was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Ohio State star is fresh off a national title victory with the Buckeyes, although questions remain about whether or not he is a capable starting quarterback in the league.

But, Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith had some telling comments about Smith that just might show how they really feel about him.

Here's what Smith said, per Teresa Varley of Steelers.com

"Obviously, we're really excited to add Will to our quarterback room. Really impressive resume, as I've gotten to know Will during this process. Obviously, he's played a lot of big games, and when I got a chance to meet with him and spend some time with him at his Pro Day, we just came away even more impressed with the person that Will Howard is."

Howard took reps in rookie minicamp on Friday, and this QB battle should be interesting until something is finalized on Rodgers.

But, Smith sure had some strong words about Howard, and perhaps that shows that the Steelers feel somewhat comfortable giving Howard the keys to the car if Rodgers doesn't sign.
