It's now May 5, 2025, and Aaron Rodgers has yet to make a decision about his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers or in the NFL as a whole.
With Rodgers expected to sign with the Steelers, according to most reports, it comes as a surprise that the two sides haven't come to an agreement on a deal.
The Steelers drafted Will Howard out of Ohio State in the sixth round, but their quarterback room is Howard, Mason Rudolph, and Skylar Thompson.
No matter how excellent a coach Mike Tomlin is, it should be a disservice from the Steelers' perspective to even ask him to go out and compete with any of those three quarterbacks next season.
According to a recent report from Athletics Mike Jones, however, it still remains uncertain what the Steelers plan to do, and even more so from Rodgers. Jones added that it's never easy to tell what the future Hall of Famer will do.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to pine for Rodgers, who had pined unsuccessfully for the Minnesota Vikings, but how much longer will this watch continue? The Steelers didn’t draft a quarterback until the sixth round, when they selected Ohio State’s Will Howard. That could make Rodgers feel a little more secure in joining them.
"But, one never can tell with Rodgers, who said recently he has been dealing with some personal matters and has no timeline for his decision. Earlier this spring, coach Mike Tomlin tried to downplay any need for a prompt resolution. For now, the Steelers will conduct offseason workouts with Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Howard as their trio of signal callers,” he wrote.
There could be some sense in going out with the Steelers' current quarterback room, as they’ll likely fall into one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL draft, which should be a much better quarterback class.
However, this team has done nothing but compete over the past few decades, and having this quarterback room will likely end that.
