For the last couple of seasons, Quinn Ewers has led the Texas offense, but he was recently drafted by the Dolphins. Now, backup Arch Manning is set to take over for the Longhorns after patiently waiting his turn for two years. The redshirt sophomore carries a name and legacy that lead many to believe he’s destined to be a star.
Throughout the transfer portal season, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have been busy adding weapons to support Manning. One notable addition is an experienced tight end from California.
“Former Cal TE Jack Endries has signed with Texas, per an ESPN source. He was Cal’s leading receiver last year and considered a top portal tight end. This position was a need for Texas, and they’ve addressed it with a productive veteran,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel wrote.
Manning remains the only top quarterback from his class who hasn’t entered the transfer portal. The sophomore could have easily left but chose to stay loyal to Texas.
“There’s nowhere else I want to be. I want to be the quarterback at the University of Texas. Sometimes it's worth the wait,” Manning said.
Although Manning is projected to be a future first overall pick, scouts don’t expect him to declare for the draft at the end of this season.

“The word from people that have been down there visiting Texas for scouting visits has been that they expect Arch to be there for two more seasons,” Field Yates said.
If Manning does eventually enter the draft, there’s still uncertainty about how well he’ll perform at the next level.
“They're almost surprised with that last name that he has that speed. He gets transformed into this elite prospect. The reality is we haven't really seen him run the offense with any consistency yet,” Dov Kleiman wrote.
Manning has shown flashes of potential when given the opportunity, but scouts will continue to have doubts. Until he proves himself with consistent play, he’ll remain just another quarterback in their eyes.
