Steelers cut ties with speedy WR before Monday Night Football

The Pittsburgh Steelers were active on their WR depth chart before Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins to close out Week 15.

To make room for Marquez Valdes-Scantling being signed to the active roster, the Steelers had to release Ke'Shawn Williams.

The move was reported just after 4 p.m. ET by ESPN's Brooke Pryor.

Williams is a speedy 5-foot-9 wide receiver who split his college career between Wake Forest and Indiana after coming out of the Philadelphia area.

This is the first season in the NFL for Williams, who hasn't caught a pass.

Instead, his role has been as a return man.

Williams has played in eight games.

He has 18 kick returns this season for 425 yards, with a long return of 37 yards.

Williams has also returned 11 punts for 112 yards, with a long of 17.

He has fumbled twice, which isn't ideal.

The Steelers have used Williams for just nine offensive snaps in his eight games.

There's always a chance Williams gets signed back to the Pittsburgh practice squad, or a different team looking for a returner could pounce on the opportunity.
