Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is set to ply his trade for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League. The three-time champions signed the 26-year-old at a whopping ₹25.20 crore during the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16.

Green became the most expensive overseas player and the third overall in IPL auction history with the deal. The Aussie player missed IPL 2025 as he continued to recover from a back injury.

He has previously represented the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament. Green's lucrative new deal got the social media buzzing.

Here are some of the top reactions on X:

₹7.20 crore from KKR's ₹25.20 crore bid for Cameron Green to go to BCCI's players welfare fund

While Cameron Green fetched a historic bid at the IPL 2026 auction, he won't get a salary of ₹25.20 crore. According to the rule implemented by the BCCI ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the salary for overseas players was set to ₹18 crore.

Any surplus amount over that will go to the BCCI's players welfare fund. Here's what the IPL's regulations say (via Sportstar):

"Any overseas player’s auction fee at a small auction will be the lower of the highest retention price of Rs. 18 crore or the highest auction price at the Big Auction,” the document states. It further clarifies that while the auction will continue until the player is sold and the full bid will be deducted from the franchise’s purse, any incremental amount above Rs. 18 crore will be deposited with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and utilised for players’ welfare."

Meanwhile, the other teams that placed bids for Green include the Rajasthan Royals (RR), MI, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). KKR won the intense bidding war to add the talented cricketer to their squad.
