The 2026 Stanley Cup Final is here, with the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights set to face off for one of the most coveted trophies in sports.
It's a rare meeting of division winners in the ultimate NHL playoff series. This marks only the second time under the current playoff format (since 2014) that two division champions will meet in the Final.
The Hurricanes have been the dominant team in the Eastern Conference all year, finishing the regular season with 113 points and going 12-1 in the playoffs with sweeps of Ottawa and Philadelphia before finally dropping a game to Montreal in the conference finals.
Vegas' path here wasn't nearly as smooth, at least until the last round. The Golden Knights pulled off a shocking sweep of Presidents' Trophy winner Colorado there after needing six games to get past Anaheim and Utah in each of the previous two rounds. If nothing else, their stunning decision to replace coach Bruce Cassidy with John Tortorella in late March has been validated.
Each team has one Stanley Cup to its credit, with the Hurricanes taking the trophy in 2006 and the Golden Knights in 2023.
