The San Antonio Spurs' season didn’t go as planned following Victor Wembanyama’s season-ending blood clot. Even if that played a role in why the Spurs didn’t make the playoffs, the team will still seek more help during the offseason.
San Antonio may look for more reinforcements in the frontcourt to aid their playoff hopes. One way they could do this is by adding Philadelphia 76ers free agent Guerschon Yabusele, who broke out with the Sixers this year. PhillyVoice’s Adam Aaronson explained why the Spurs would want him.
“Yabusele's quality shooting stroke could enable Fox to play with optimal spacing around him when Wembanyama is off the floor; his strength would allow Wembanyama to occasionally take a breather defensively and be used in more creative capacities on that end of the floor,” Aaronson wrote.
“Yabusele's ability to play out of the short roll and to pass on the move makes him a pristine fit in San Antonio's offense.”
Yabusele was also Wembanyama’s teammate on the French Olympic basketball team in 2024, which indicates their familiarity. The Spurs will cap room this summer, and will want to build the right team around their franchise cornerstone. Putting another player who both proved he belongs in the NBA and is someone Wembanyama has played next to could be quite the find.
The Sixers likely won’t simply let Yabusele walk this offseason. After proving himself in his return to the NBA, Philadelphia probably will try to keep him as long as his next deal won’t be too expensive.

However, the Sixers may compete with multiple teams that will want Yabusele’s services. It wouldn’t be shocking if the Spurs are one of them.
