Spurs could break NBA by trading for $112M star that fits perfectly with Victor Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs will have many assets to move on from in the future, so making a trade now isn't necessary.

Still, if the Spurs are looking to win a championship next season after losing the NBA Finals this year, there should be some sense that going after other really good players is an idea they want to pursue. Ultimately, the Spurs must consider what is right and what would be wrong.

One player who I believe all fans would be happy about, and certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to pursue, is Trey Murphy. Murphy was recently predicted to be traded, and that should be viewed as ideal news for San Antonio.

“Trey Murphy represents the ultimate modern wing asset, meaning he will inevitably command a sky-high price from any aggressive buyer in the marketplace. He gives teams a highly explosive, athletic perimeter defender who can shoot the lights out on a fairly team-friendly deal. An acquiring franchise will have to heavily woo the Pelicans with a historic draft-capital haul to pry him away, but with New Orleans drifting so far from true championship contention, pivoting to a full-blown organizational rebuild looks like the most logical trajectory,” Joe Cervenka wrote.

Murphy is a bit of an overrated defender, though he's not bad on that side of the basketball at all. However, considering what we've seen over the past few seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, he's a bit better offensively than anything else. I think, however, in San Antonio he'd be a perfect fit for what both parties can offer each other.
