A highly intriguing all-European matchup graces the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in Miami on Saturday as beaten Euro 2024 finalists England take on Norway.
The matchup features two of the game's greatest pure goal-scorers going head-to-head. Norway striker Erling Haaland's seven goals are one more than England star Harry Kane, with both in contention for the World Cup Golden Boot.
England are hoping to avoid quarterfinal elimination for the second straight World Cup, while Norway have never reached this stage before and are just looking to continue their magical run.
Who will start for England? Will Norway make any changes after its convincing Round of 16 win? The Sporting News looks at the projected starting lineups and team news ahead of Saturday's showdown.

Norway projected starting 11
(4-3-3, right to left): 1. O. Nyland (GK) — 26. J. Ryerson, 3. K. Ajer, 17. T. Heggem, 5. D. Moller Wolfe — 10. M. Odegaard, 8. S. Berge, 6. P. Berg — 7. A. Sorloth, 9. E. Haaland, 20. A. Nusa
- Injured: None
- Suspended: None
- On a yellow card: A. Nusa
Norway are essentially at full strength both from a fitness and disciplinary standpoint, leaving head coach Stale Solbakken with only tactical questions to answer heading into this match.
Solbakken will need to determine whether to stick with Antonio Nusa on the left wing after he was yanked at halftime of the Brazil win, or go with his replacement Andreas Schjelderup who assisted both of Erling Haaland's goals.
The other question is at the third midfield spot where Fredrik Aursnes had been starting regularly until Patrick Berg took over against Brazil and performed well. Aursnes, for his own part, came in for Julian Ryerson for the final half-hour at right-back and played a strong game despite being out of position.
England projected starting 11
(4-2-3-1, right to left): 1. J. Pickford (GK) — 25. D. Spence, 2. E. Konsa, 6. M. Guehi, 3. N. O'Reilly — 4. D. Rice, 8. E. Anderson — 7. B. Saka, 10. J. Bellingham, 18. A. Gordon — 9. H. Kane
- Injured: J. Henderson (fractured arm), R. James (hamstring, doubt), Guehi (hamstring, doubt), D. Rice (back, doubt)
- Suspended: J. Quansah (red card, two games)
- On a yellow card: D. Rice, M. Guehi, N. O'Reilly, J. Bellingham, J. Henderson
The crisis for England at right-back continues, with Djed Spence is expected to flip back to that side despite Thomas Tuchel's apparent preference to play him on the left. It's become messy as Reece James struggles through his hamstring injury, Jarell Quansah is suspended two games for his red card against Mexico, and Trent Alexander-Arnold was left home by Thomas Tuchel.
Injuries have been a frustration for Tuchel so far, as Declan Rice continues to play through back pain and Marc Guehi has hamstring tightness. If Guehi cannot start, there will be questions about whether Dan Burn or John Stones should line up in his stead.
Guehi, James, and Rice all trained on Friday, indicating the injuries may be workable for the England stars and all three could be in contention to start.
Jordan Henderson suffered a gruesome arm fracture after a fall over the advertising boards during the celebrations at the Azteca, and he will take no further part in the tournament after needing surgery in Mexico City.
Norway vs. England predictions, betting odds
England were fantastic at Estadio Azteca, but they paid the price in both availability and overall fitness. The Three Lions emptied the tank to hang on under siege at altitude in Mexico City and will be struggling to get back the extreme levels of energy spent.
Norway, meanwhile, were comfortable for the 90 minutes against Brazil, able to keep a significant amount of the ball under very little pressure from the South American side who were afraid of the Vikings' counter-attack.
England will struggle to deal with the Norway counter, and Haaland will be familiar with many of his opponents in this match, which helped him deal with Gabriel of Brazil in the last game. It's not coming home.
- Score prediction: Norway 3-2 England
