Spirit Fingers follows the story of Song U-yeon, a shy and awkward high school student who constantly struggles to fit into the world around her. She isn’t good at studies, much to her mother’s disappointment. Her mother always compares her to her older brother, which makes her feel even more insecure. U-yeon’s lack of confidence and constant bullying at school further makes her insecure.
One day, while on her way to meet her friends, U-yeon accidentally encounters a group of artists who have formed a spontaneous art club called 'Spirit Fingers'. The club is founded by Nam Geu-rin and her childhood friend, Koo Seon-ho, who are also college mate. The group invites U-yeon to join them, and she agrees, mainly because she develops a crush on Seon-ho.
As she heads to attend her first meeting, U-yeon gets bullied again. While gathering herself after the incident, she meets Nam Gi-jeong, who approaches her asking for tissues. Seeing her distressed, Gi-jeong encourages her to stand up to her bullies before leaving. Unknown to her, he is a part-time model and Geu-rin’s younger brother.
Later, U-yeon attends the club meeting and learns that Spirit Fingers is a unique art group where members take turns posing while the rest sketch them. Occasionally, they invite guest models to pose for them. On that particular day, Gi-jeong is invited to model for the group.
When he recognizes U-yeon, she panics, worried that he might expose her embarrassing encounter from earlier. Flustered, she accidentally hurts him and starts avoiding him altogether, which irritates Gi-jeong as he isn’t used to being ignored, especially by a girl.
Still from Spirit Fingers (Image via X/@tvingdotcom)Determined to talk to her, Gi-jeong joins the club permanently and even gets her phone number to reach out. However, U-yeon doesn’t respond to his messages, making him even more frustrated. His friends are surprised by his sudden behavior.
Meanwhile, U-yeon begins to find comfort in the Spirit Fingers group. Surrounded by warm and supportive people, she feels a sense of belonging she’s never finds home. Her mother’s endless comparisons and academic pressure have always made her feel small, but the club gives her space to express herself freely and to see herself differently. She also keeps growing closer to Seon-ho, her crush, which makes her look forward to every meeting.
Over time, U-yeon and Gi-jeong keep encountering each other at the club. They’re both the youngest members, so they often end up paired together. Unable to tolerate being ignored any longer, Gi-jeong finally confronts her about not replying to his messages. They talk things out and become friends. Gi-jeong starts spending more time with her, encouraging her to stand up to her bullies. With his support, U-yeon finally does, gaining a new sense of confidence. He tells her that he’ll always be there for her whenever she needs someone to rely on.
However, Gi-jeong soon realizes that U-yeon has feelings for Seon-ho. This makes him unexpectedly annoyed and confused. U-yeon notices his irritation and talks to her friends about it. They tell her that maybe it’s because his sister, Geu-rin, is close to Seon-ho, or perhaps even more than friends. Thinking he might tease her for liking Seon-ho, U-yeon lies and says she doesn’t have a crush on him.
Gi-jeong, on the other hand, is equally confused about his emotions. He doesn’t understand why U-yeon’s crush on Seon-ho bothers him so much. Later, when U-yeon openly confesses that she does like Seon-ho, Gi-jeong feels heartbroken. Still, he supports her and even sets up a chance for her to confess her feelings to Seon-ho. But just before she can confess, Seon-ho gets a call that Geu-rin has gotten drunk and needs help, so he rushes to her side.
Still from Spirit Fingers (Image via X/@tvingdotcom)Gi-jeong is however, feels both sad and lost. He confides in his friends and soon realizes that he’s actually likes U-yeon. He goes to see her, but instead of properly confessing, he awkwardly asks her to “like him instead.” U-yeon, taken aback and irritated, walks away, which makes him believe she’s rejected him.
The misunderstanding affects Gi-jeong deeply, leaving him physically unwell. Seeing his state, his sister and friends urge him to properly confess his feelings. He gathers his courage and goes to see U-yeon again but this time, he blurts out an impulsive marriage proposal. Shocked and angry, U-yeon yells at him and rejects him again.
Gi-jeong remains relentless. When he finally confesses sincerely calling her pretty, U-yeon doesn’t believe him, thinking he’s only joking. Having no self-confidence, she can’t accept that a handsome model like him who is constantly surrounded by beautiful women, can see her as pretty. Her friends also reassure her that she is indeed pretty, but she still struggles to believe it.
Meanwhile, Seon-ho confesses his feelings to Geu-rin. However, she rejects him, saying she wants to keep him as a lifelong friend. She fears that if they start dating and eventually break up, they’ll lose each other completely.
Seon-ho tells her that he’s always seen her as more than a friend and doesn’t want to continue pretending otherwise. His words leave Geu-rin conflicted and disheartened making her mind swaying. On this note, episode 4 of Spirit Fingers concludes.
